August 11, 2005 Brother’s and
Sister’s of Local 3201 NETWORK 2005 is almost gone.
Forced overtime in Network is one of the main concerns and problems
we are facing in the Network operation. Our
local filed a grievance when the Company forced passed 12 hours in July. The
12 hour grievance is at the state level and Harry McFarland will be
meeting on that grievance. Since
the local filed that grievance we have not been forced to work pass 12,
but almost every day we are forced 1 to 2 hours up to 12. The
company has the right under the contract to do that. When we had the grievance meeting on the 12 hour rule with
Alan Edmonson, he agreed to give us some additional jobs to help with the
situation. We got a ST in
Cordele and an OPT and FT in Albany Construction to help with rehab. They
have been selected and maybe they will soon start to make a difference. CONSUMER In the Albany Consumer
office, we were able to get around 10 to 12 wage scale 10’s and 16’s
upgraded to wage scale 23. Hopefully
there will be additional jobs after the first of the year and we can start
getting some of our NDA members into the BST contract. UTILITIES In filling the jobs in
Network several of our Buried Service Wire members were able to bid and
get Network Jobs in Albany, Americus, and Thomasville. Please welcome these members we you happen to run into them in
the work centers or on the job. NDA NDA bargaining starts
in October. We have already
had some meetings with the company. It
is going to be a tough contract, but if we stand together we will come out
will an agreement that we all can live with. The
Local was able to convince the company that the Albany Center should be
the one to get the new Florida traffic unit. This meant 40 additional jobs in Albany. In closing, we have
some members that are going through some very tough times with very
serious illnesses in their family. Thomas
Waston is one of those. Thomas
lost his arm in an accident while working. The
local sent out a nation wide plea for help and as to date the local has
raised around five thousand dollars to help Thomas and his family. Please remember Thomas and his family along with the other
members whose families are hurting at this time. Roger Todd |
